Heart full of Boulders

the Boy wore

worn-out clothes

and shoes full of holes

so the kids at school

cut Him 

with sharp deeds

and words

thread-bare anger

was too hard to control

when they called

His Mother a whore

the Child fought the good fight

against cruelty and hate

going home with bruises

and a broken heart every day

the rumors reached His Mother,

the kindest soul you could find,

and She told Him,

“Pay them no mind,

their hearts are full of boulders

and their heads are full of straw,

but they're still worthy of love”

unbeknownst to all

the Boy grew up to be a King

who died for everybody’s sins

the good and the bad

as a Man

He loved everyone

and was hard to make angry

no mattered what

they had done

when others asked Him

why are You so loving

to the ones who hurt you?

He answered,

“Because their hearts

are full of boulders

and their heads full of straw.

but they're still worthy of love”
