Authentic You

by Lana Marie

I have a love-hate relationship

with the mirror on the wall,

I look into it often and think,

“Who is the fairest of all?

Is it the one short and dumpy,

Or the one that is tall?

Is it a blonde or a brunette,

The red head with a hair-net?

Is it one with dark skin

With a massive grin?

Who? Tell me, who is the fairest of all?

Wait – don’t, it could turn into a brawl.

I cannot worry about What you think of me,

Because each one of us Has a unique beauty.”

So I smile at the mirror,

And let the truth shine through:

The fairest of all

Is the authentic you
