What faith means to me.

Faith Is What You Call It

by Kristen P.

Faith is what you call it when you do not want to learn. It rains because God says so. There’s no other explanation. God built this big, bright planet. Where else could it have come from?

Faith is what you call it when you simply can’t be bothered. Should I do something to help that man who’s sleeping on the street? Or should I ask God to do it for me? Either way I’ve made a difference. That’s what I’m choosing to believe.

Faith is what you call it when you will not blame yourself. God’s plan cannot be altered. No actions can trace back to me.

Oh no, the church is in the news again. But God, I know it’s not your fault.

Faith is what you call it when you’re not paying attention. When your one successful prayer lets you forget the hundreds gone unanswered.

I pray my football team will win this week. I pray the other team’s not praying. I pray my math test will be easy. God wrote the questions, I assume.

Please, God, you have to help us! My sweet grandma—She is sick! Hail Mary. Our Father. The tumors have to go away! Dear God, please, I am begging. I’ll do whatever you want. I won’t even wonder where the cancer came from.

Faith is what you call it when the dots stay unconnected. God told me to hate so many of his children. But I do not question God. I do not ask why Hell exists, if He’s so eager to forgive us. I do not criticize the choice to send us hurricanes and floods.

Dear God, you saved my grandma! I am forever indebted to you. I’ll start bringing her to church again, as soon as the doctors say she’s able.
