12 Days of Christmas

We are all familiar with the catchy Christmas song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. You know, the one featuring, for example, Five Golden Rings, Six Geese A-Laying, Ten Lords A-Leaping, Three French Hens and that Partridge in the Pear Tree.

Well if you were the recipient of all those gifts for the specified 12-day period, you would need a large enough house or storage facility in which to stockpile the 364 gifts you'll be receiving. I did the math and it is in fact 364 gifts in total. Hmph! Slightly more then the number of Christmas gifts my wife buys for our five grandchildren...

And, according to the TDCCPI (Twelve Days of Christmas Consumer Price Index), also traded on the New York Stock Exchange, hahaha, kidding, the value of these 364 gifts is staggering; over $410,000.

Yee-gads! Sure takes a bankroll to gift them, I'd say.

Topping the list ...

TEN LORDS-A-LEAPING - most costly at $15, 579.65.

Followed by :

SEVEN SWANS-A-SWIMMING at $13,125.

Phew... that's some hefty-priced gift giving.

Remember, I started by saying this tune was catchy. Over the years (many years in fact) recording artists and celebrities put together their own version. To name a few...

Jeff Foxworthy - Redneck 12 Days of Christmas

Allan Sherman - a comical version of this song

Twisted Sister- performed heavy metal, headache generating version

Pentatonix, the acapella group sang a super cool version of the original song.

Frank Sinatra and family- a sort of quirky rendition.

I'm certainly no celebrity or recording artist, but with this in mind, I put together (below) a FanStory version of this song.

To get you in the spirit and proper cadence, I listed the first two verses of the original song, followed by mine counting down from day twelve...

Original:

On the first day of Christmas,

my true love gave to me

A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,

my true love gave to me

Two turtle doves

and a partridge in a pear tree.

Here we go, changeover to mine-

On the twelfth day of Christmas,

my wifey gave to me,

Twelve endless musings,

Eleven contest entries,

Ten forms of writing,

Nine started novels,

Eight per-fect haikus,

Seven ways to publish,

Six cups a-coffee,

F-i-v-e  q-u-i-l-t-e-d  p-e-n-s,

Four rhyming poems

Three lap tops,

Two writing plots,

And a FanStory gift for all time!

Imagine how lucky we are, we get the FanStory 12 Days of Christmas all for a $99 annual subscription!

I hope you enjoyed my silliness.

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Holidays

John
