Had A Serious Talk With Me

by Reese Turner

By the way,, I never intended to be

As old as I am. Is this really me?

I hurt from my head to my toe

Things I knew, now I don’t know

Obvious things in view, I can’t see.

My weight changed its’ location

From where it was; bad sensation!

Hair now grows on my back

While hair on top now I lack

I’m not the me I was at creation!

My youth just got up and fleeted

Once invincible, now I feel defeated

Am I on my last lap?

Funeral for me on tap?

Has my name in life been deleted?

Au contrair!  I’ve still got a few miles

To feast on wine, food and sweet smiles

To scratch some dogs’ ears,

Assuage a hurt child’s tears…

Fight, old man, you can win these trials!

"but you are not required to follow this rhyme scheme." I was a little confused, so I went with this statement and posted my poem as it was written. I am 76 and I have to have this talk with me almost daily. Just had a heated one this morning!
