She cared about the American worker.

The Lady Cared

by HarryT

The lady called herself a hell-raiser
T.R.'s condemnation didn't phase her
Senate called her "grandmother of agitators"
She argued she was a worker educator

Helped workers gain better working conditions
Hated by rich owners and stuff-shirt politicians
She lost everything during the Chicago Fire
Wanted to help the unfortunate with burning desire

By mid-1880's Mary joined the fight for the 8-hour day
Workers spent 14 up to 18 hours a day for little pay
She became concerned about the plight of coal miners
She fought owners and political hard-liners

Jones assisted in the fight to stop the labor of children
Leading the Children's Crusade as a fighting pilgrim
Throughout her life she rained shame upon owner shirkers
Mother Jones jailed multiple times for organizing workers

Finally in 1924, recognized for her service to humanity
Bringing to the American worker strength and dignity
