A Halloween Poem

All Hallows Eve

by Ronald Rutt

I'll tell y'all a story that is hard to believe, but it happened on this night called All Hallows Eve.
Now on this night so long ago, we came upon a place that we did not know.
It was cold and dark and very secluded. It was shrouded in mist and totally wooded.
As we walked along through this alien land, we were approached from behind by this strange little man.
He was short and thin with bright shiny eyes and he scared me to silence, despite his mere size.
He spoke in a voice that was a strange little garble. It scared me so much, I became frozen like marble.
He said, "Do as I say and I will let you live. All of your children, to me you must give."
As soon as he said this, the man disappeared. I reached for my children, but it was just as I feared.
My children were gone and in terrible danger. Who knows what will happen at the hands of this stranger?
I ran all night, til I thought I would die. Then I dropped to my knees and hysterically cried.
When at last I released this ear-piercing scream, that's when I awakened from my terrible dream.
