Days of the Gladiator.

The Gladiator

by Harry Craft

The gnashing of their swords

was the entertainment of the day

the brutality could not be put into words

and with their lives

the Gladiators would pay

They were bold and brave

in the coliseum their Freedom

they did crave

better to die with honor

than to die as a slave

Their swords piercing flesh and hearts

splattering blood in the ring of death

drove the crowds into a frenzy

as dead men and their parts

were hauled away by oxen and carts

These were the games

of the pompous and the rich

to watch their warrior die

in a such horrible way

brought enjoyment to their day
