St Marys, Sydney, Pts 3-12 asstd
A chapter in the book Geoff's Ramblings
Progressive Chngs Metro/Airport
by Sankey
As per the heading, we take you through various parts of the changes at St Marys in Western Sydney, commencing at part 3 and moving through, a bit erratically, to part 12. (Part 13 was posted some time ago if you want to refer back to it.) Only the numbering system is messed up, the information is pretty well in order of how it happened.
The Youtube Links for each part are listed in the Author notes, below.
Part 3 Changes.
We come down in the lift, from Level 5 of the car park in the back, where I had hoped to get some more video and photos above the fence up there. Alas, that was not to be, due to poor instruction on my part, for the person brave enough to climb up high enough to reach over the mesh fencing. You will have already seen some of that in the previous sections of this project.
Later, I was so pleased to learn from a friend, about the fire doors on each of the 5 levels of the new car park, you can actually go behind and get FENCE-FREE video as you will see in later ones on here.
I tried to keep people's faces out of my filming, for privacy's sake.
A new lift has gone in really quickly, I thought, taking the place of the old one at St Marys Station. I think perhaps the old one is going to be reconfigured to go down into the new Metro level when it comes on.
Part 4 Changes.
In this update on the changes at St Marys we look at the doings up off Glossop Street, East of St Marys' Station, where more is being done for the coming Metro. See also the detail of the demolition of Station Plaza shops, at least the empty dirt and stuff being removed, now. I have added a couple of clips from Part 3 to see the changes to the lift system at St Mary's Station. I don't know what will happen but the old shops in front of the station have finally been barricaded up. Not before time as they were just a derelict row of deserted buildings with only 2 shops still open on the railway side. Notice our lovely Blue Mountains in the background, on a, fortunately, beautiful day.
Part 5 This is just a shorter addition to the Changes I have brought you, here at St Marys in preparation for the coming Metro which will run from St Marys to the new Nancy Bird Western Sydney Airport. A pity it was not a better day, weatherwise.
We bring you views of either end of the workings on St Marys's Station side as well as from the Glossop Street (Eastern) side.
I have experimented with a slightly different format for this video.
Short Part 6
Showing the now cleared former Bus Interchange and a little more of the work further east, in the distance. Over to the right more on the now demolished Station Plaza Shopping centre space still being worked on. All this, one way or the other for the coming Metro from St Marys to the Nancy Bird, Western Sydney Airport. Eventually, this Metro will also be connected to the current Metro service running from Tallawong to Chatswood, edited to add...NOW under the harbour to Central, Sydenham, then Bankstown...also eventually. The connection with Tallawong from St Marys is down the track a bit. I will share the other metro areas, later on. So much improvement and transport additions going on, in our city.
Sorry for the mess up in the Part numbering system.
Part 7.
If you have been with us, since I started these videos and photos, you will have noticed a lot of changes. The demolition of the Station Plaza Shopping Centre and the demolition of the old bus interchange next to the station led to the creation of the new bus interchange in replacement of the old car park. A more centralised bus station and the reduced car park. Now the old shopping centre site has been re-concreted and we wait to see what is coming next. The guy that looks like he is trying to break in, is me. I was videoing through the gate handle gap, as I happened there on the weekend when the gate was shut.
Part 10. I apologize for the slight shakiness in the video.
This was the very first time I got the fire door open on Level 5 of the new carpark. So you are finally getting some photos and videos from that level with NO mesh fencing! We visit both East and West ends of this project. Firstly on the Eastern end (just closer to the main CBD)then later from the station side.(West.)
Notice the beautiful day and the lovely Blue Mountains to the West.
Part 11 of Preparation for Coming Metro at St Marys was filmed in September 2023. I think I am improving with my video and photography. Some of these might have been "borrowed" from a friend. The "box" has come a long way, as you will have noticed. Photos and videos were achieved from four or five different positions. Glossop St Bridge. The top of the Metro works up the road from the railway bridge. St Marys Station. Level 5 of the car park at the rear of the Station.
Part 12
Metro St Marys Part 12.
There are some shaky bits, sorry and there may be some repeats.
This is my latest version of the Preparation for the Metro to run between St Marys and the new Western Sydney "Nancy Bird" Airport.
The Metro "box" is really coming along and a lot of the machinery and infrastructure is gradually disappearing from the old Station Plaza Shopping Centre site.
There are several passes over the box area for the Metro, adjacent to St Marys Heavy Rail station. Apologies for missing sequences in the numbering. Nothing is missed, just crook numbering on my part.
Check back in the index for Part 13, regarding the Viaduct, South of St Marys, where the Metro passes, on its way to the new (2nd Sydney)Airport. I hope to bring you some video of the progress of that, as well.
