The Hotdog

by BermyBye50

*

At lunch in elementary school one day,

I asked for a hotdog, without delay.

With ketchup, that’s what it’s about,

But alas, all the ketchup was fresh out.

The choices left my taste buds affright,

Just mustard, relish, and mayo, white.

It was then that my heart sank low—

"Mustard? Relish?" I whispered, "No!"

Then mayo caught my panicked eye;

"Alright," I thought, "I’ll give it a try."

One bite, and my belly said “No thanks!”

I tossed the bun, and wiped off the frank.

The taste was awful—so I ate it bare,

Lesson learned never again anywhere.
