In the depths of darkness

Out of the Darkness

by Peter Jarvis

In shadows darkness, where silence lay,
A blackened hole, where hope held sway,
Deep in depression , through nights long and black
Waiting for the inevitable suicidal attack

With gentle hands, you held my heart,
When my weary soul felt torn apart,
Your patience, like a guiding light,
Brought whispers of dawn to endless night.

Through storms of doubt and waves of mental pain,
You stood beside me, again and again and again
You never judged , you never blamed
You understood my pain, you stayed the same

Each tear I shed, you caught with grace,
In every frown, you found my face,
With love of many years, you mended me,
Transforming unhappiness to serenity

Now many years have passed, my spirit soars,
In vibrant hues, life now restores,
But still I pause, with heart so true,
To thank the stars, for marrying you.

For in the lowest part of my life, your love was found,
A lifeline thrown, a sacred ground,
Forever grateful, I shall be,
For you my wife, my best friend , you saved me.

Gratitude expressed in a poem writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Poem, any style, expressing gratitude for one who made a difference in your life.

Most of us at some point in our life will suffer from some form of depression and for many this will be short lived. Following a serious assault in the Prison Service I was medically retired, spent many weeks in hospital and sunk into a deep dark black hole. It took over 2 years to find a degree of happiness. My wife played a major part in my recovery.
This poem is dedicated to her. We have been together now for 57 years.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
