A thought will light the candle flame
it's then the pen will flow,
And from the ink that fills the quill
the candle flame will glow.

So many stories have transpired
as if life's mortal blow
will fill one's mind with endless scenes
like roses row on row.

I've been a writer many years
too many to recall.
As if those chestnuts drop from trees
and nothing stems their fall.

Yet nothing can withstand God's gifts
as long as breath remains.
How else can friendship build its life
whence springs the sun and rain.
