The terror of my lonely thoughts, never leaving me alone

I Get Lonely at Night

by Sophia Mendez

The quiet of the dark

Cannot hide the silhouettes of my thoughts

Looming over me

Aglow in sound, silent in sight

They embrace me with cold

They hiss at my comfort

And mock my reason

The tremor deeps

My heart weeps

As the thoughts creep

And thorns my sleep

I get lonely at night

Wrapped in a black sky

Paralyzed in bellows

Only freed by light

I cannot close my eyes

For the figures will grow

I cannot hide

For the figures will know

Staring, wide eyed

Hands open slow

Leaning to me, with the weight of my woe
