Willing your being to be

by Lindsey Pabst

I tried not to take you for granted,
I tried to remember each day,
The impermanence of all that we’re handed,
And yet- can’t help feeling this way,

This longing for sharing your being,
Or willing your being to be,
To make tangible each memory fleeting,
Fold it tightly and hold it to me,

My soul, when feeling this stranded,
Must remember to shift and to pray,
How lucky I was to be granted,
This gift that was mine every day
