Sky watching over me

Following Me Home

by Verna Cole Mitchell

Wisps of lavender clouds
Trailed the bright pink circle
Of afternoon sun,
Keeping golden watch
Over my travels.
Sunset, fading to palest mauve,
Followed me home.
Beyond the vanishing pastel
Arose a tiny sliver of moon,
Like an eyelash lying neath a closed eye.
From inside her purple cloak,
Studded with sparkling diamond stars,
The splinter of vanilla orb
Watched over me all the way
Till I was safely home.
