A 100 word story
Star-Crossed
by RodG
It seemed like a good idea at the time. I’d recently joined a dating app and had my first affirmative response. Mary would meet me for lunch.
A widower, 72, I sought some female companionship. I’m tall, still have a thick head of hair, and have kept the weight off.
Mary had a pretty face and we apparently shared varied interests. I was excited to meet her.
I entered the restaurant, steadying myself with my cane. I saw her sitting at a window table, and somehow slipped.
As a waiter helped me up, I saw her leaving. She wasn’t smiling.
