Unrequited love

No More Black Hearts

by Heather Knight

remember the day

I cut that casual thread

between us?

I’d love to go back in time

and speak about

an ebony note instead,

any safe topic, even the sun.

infatuation is a funny thing

when it’s not reciprocated.

the black hearts stop,

and so do the hidden words.

but fear not, I’m old, not blind.

we live in different worlds,

different dimensions.

our paths will hardly ever cross.

I know you’re special,

while I’m just one of many.

maybe one day,

we’ll be able

to start again.

almost friends?
