Summer's Song

by Verna Cole Mitchell

A chorus of wrens in early morn
Sing cheerily to awaken sleeping flowers.
Bees hum a sweet refrain to
Fresh blooms yawning open.
Soft lilting breezes whisper melodies
Through fluttering green leaves.
A little creek burbles a merry tune
As it dances through the forest.
Raindrops drum staccato beats
To thunder's booming bass.
Barefoot children chant silly rhymes
As they splash through muddy puddles.
My soul rejoices in the joy
Of the song that summer sings.
