The Me I See

by Claire Tennant

My body was once a sight to see
brown hair, brown eyes that's me
the signs of soft Scottish skin
has more moisture within
don't worry about my gait
I limp but am rarely late
a little short-sighted now I'm old
with a cheeky grin, so I'm told
slim and trim not any more
folds of indulgence at my core

Like any other body, mine has faults
disability has had its taunts
always but always my eyes of brown
sees this body upside down
picking something from the floor
banging my head against a door
all I can see is miles of fat
why should it matter to this old bat?
