A Sensual Exercise
The Blood of Dezirayh (Excerpt)
by Patrick Bernardy
All air seemed to be sucked out of the room, making it hard for Andréia to breathe. The wine tasted bitter, the candlelight was too dim, the wooden chair on which she sat was too hard, the vanilla incense she had lit was sickeningly pungent, and the sound of Priestess Chelsea crying grated on her nerves. It was as if all five of her senses were being assaulted at once. Nothing was pleasant or reassuring.
Blessed Mother, what are we to do?
Andréia fiddled with her signet ring and took a deep breath that sounded more like a gasp.
