The Cosmic cat
Lived in Berkeley

One autumn day
When I was home
On home leave
In between assignments

I met the cosmic cat
Who adopted me
And became my constant companion

Every day for two weeks
He followed me around
Listening to me
Tell him my life’s story

When I had to leave
The cosmic cat
Disappeared

I told my Mother
Who was slipping
Every day into Alzehimer’s fog
About the Cosmic Cat

She said
He was a cosmic cat indeed
There for us
In our hour of need.
