Love once warm turned cold

Amber Eyes

by Khobe Saari

I remember when you professed your love,
And looked at me through amber eyes you said,
"I'll love you until the day I am dead."
And since that day, I've held no one above.

Every step of life, it's us I'd think of.
Our love used to mean something, but instead,
you've found someone else, leaving me with dread.
You made me a fool to think this was love.

Please, darling, tell me, when did this start?
Was it something I said? I can't take blame,
For I sacrificed much. What can you claim?
Our heart once one, how you’ve torn us apart.

Lies you fed me, so sweet, now tasting tart,
Betraying me, O monster, veins cold with shame.
I'll cut you down with this knife filled with pain,
from when you drove it so deep in my heart.

Those amber eyes once looked at me with trust.
Looking now, I see love taken by lust.
