A favourite of mine

Not in the Rainbow

It is the sailors' warning and the shepherds' delight
ink on school papers that gave me a fright
the driver's stop sign, or a sweet perfume name
the hue on your cheeks' heat or shame
the colour of liquid after the scratch
nail polish or lipstick, the makeup patch
the bright rose petal that cheers your day
the colour that never fades away
it is always a favourite of mine to wear
though rarely an advantage when colouring hair
today, though calm, I am ready to pine
it's far too early for a glass of wine
