Waist Deep In Summer

by jim vecchio

Summer, my dear, has not left us

In fact, we are waist deep in it

We must uphold it with all our strength

We have allowed clouds to overshadow our lives

And sweep His blessings far from home

But we can latch onto them once more

And use those blessings to shape our lives

And thus shape the world

Our summer must not go down without a fight

A fight for all that’s good and decent

All that free men cherish in their hearts

We can do it together

We can resist season’s change

We can shape our world

In a better way

Under a brighter son

A sun that will burn upon us

Not with pestilence and pain

But promises

Promises of a better day

A brighter tomorrow

And hope for man’s souls
