Rain Dance

by Patrick Bernardy

Invoke a soothing rain, a quenching sip.
A dance to cause the god of wither pain
and nerve to steal his desiccating whip.
                                       —Invoke a soothing rain.

Voracious vines and reaching roots regain
their drive for growth and push with thirsty tip
to drink their fill as drops descend arcane.

                                       The land's enthralled—this dancer’s swaying hip
that wills the storm to wet the weakened plain.
The god of wither, vanquished, curls his lip.
                                       —Invoke a soothing rain.
