Genesis 3:1 - 3:24

Paradise Lost

by Terry Reilly

Peace prevails in the Garden, harmony abounds.
All is bright and beautiful, tranquility surrounds.
Restless, though, is wanton Eve; something is amiss.
Artfully she winks at Adam, pleading for a kiss.
Devil in a serpent guise, a maker of mischief.
Innocence he'll steal from them; an evil, forked-tongued thief.
Sex will be the couple's downfall, Adam takes the bait,
Eating Eve's red juicy apple, that will seal their fate.

Lord Creator sternly watches, sadly shakes his head.
Out of Eden they must go, their purity has fled.
Sombrely he snaps his fingers, sharply bids them "go!"
Tumbling through the ether till they sprawl on Earth below.
