A Short Get Away

by Bryce 1

I was walking through the woods the other day. My back drifting further from the log cabin I rented out. I came out here, to the mountains, to get away from the valley below. My life down there is so stressful sometimes. I feel like even up here, I have only brought my worried mind with me. That's the point I suppose, to bring the chaos somewhere calm in hopes that it will get the memo. Anyway, I was about a mile into the woods when I heard someone call for help. I could tell by their tone alone that they were in great need. I yelled out to them over and over until I felt like I was only a few feet away. Their yelling subsided to calmer tones, so mine did too. I sat down on the log in front of me to find the source of the sound. A small pond rippled in a ditch, in the reflection was my face, full of anxious worry. I let out a breath, closed my eyes and let everything go.
