CHOKA is a Japanese poetic form created in the 6th century. In addition to the classic [ 5/7 - 5/7 - 5/7 - 5/7 - 7 ] syllable pattern (OPTIONAL you may write a longer choka with as many 5/7 couplets ended with a 7 syllables line you like). Choka often incorporated wordplay, alliteration, and other poetic devices to enhance their beauty and meaning. Traditionally, choka poems were composed to express emotions, describe nature, or convey personal experiences. In modern times, choka poetry connects us to the literary traditions of ancient Japan. It serves as a vehicle for self-expression, artistic exploration, and cultural preservation.
