The Moon

by tempeste

Few are immune
to the enchantment of the moon
musicians and writers alike
she inspires

People around the globe admire
her ever changing phases
and her many tints;
from crimson
yellow and pink
to rare hues
like black and blue.

As a teen I loved
to watch her milky glow
shimmer on the lake
from my bedroom window.

The ancient Greeks
named her Selene,
a goddess seen
pulling the moon across
the sky in a silver chariot.

Sailors to find their way
turned to her and still today
many to recapture
the spirit of adventure
use the sun, stars and moon
to stay on course.

Those that till the soil
learned centuries ago
that the best time to sow
is when she's at her fullest glow.

The moon comforts me
with her soothing vibe,
 I speak to her
about my highs and lows
and the world's many woes.

At times Earth
can feel a lonely place
but then she graces us
with her glowing face
while her gavitational pull
helps keep us in place
as we spin in space.

For some she is a teaser
playing hide and seek
with her big brother;
others see them as lovers
chasing one another
catching up rarely for a kiss
while the world watches
in awe their eclipse.
