On Steve Ditko and Writing
by jim vecchio
I have had some minor wins within the month, and so cannot enter the contest about writing about writing.
However, I can write about writing about writing.
I feel the same way about writing as did Steve Ditko about his works.
You have heard about Spider Man, haven’t you?
Ditko was creator, or co-creator of Spidey and dozens of other characters who have since gained great reader and viewer fame, such as Doctor Strange and Blue Beetle.
He seems to have been a happy-go-lucky fella and when he worked for Charlton Comics in my home state, Connecticut, he loved buying small gifts and candy for some of the female employees.
Ditko seems to have reflected Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism. He declined interviews and preferred to communicate to his followers through his work.
He refused a great reward once. He felt writers and artists came from their various viewpoints to create their work, that it wasn’t fair to place one above another. He had his brand, the Ditko Brand, while others had their particular brands.
I feel it is foolish to write about writing.
Would you take an orange, a banana, and a watermelon and teach them how to be a proper fruit?
Everyone at FanStory, and all the writers in this world stem from a one-of-its kind, unique place.
All have strengths and weaknesses.
We overcome our weaknesses by writing, writing, writing. Soon the strengths will more often than not appear.
We have no right to inflict our writing views and criticisms to change someone’s writing style. The best we can do is promote and encourage their strong points.
It is good to try for acceptance, but not for one’s personal glory.
I believe all Talent stems from God, and we should utilize it to His glory and not merely for personal satisfaction.
