A woman muses during a robbery at a dollar store

The Dollar Store

by Pamusart

I walked into the dollar store.
They really charged a whole lot more.
I found some towels, wash rags too.
I really liked the color blue.

I headed to the checkout stand.
That's when I saw an angry man.
He stood and waved a great big gun.
My feet were glued, I could not run.

Before too long he found the clerk.
I started thinking he's a jerk.
He asked her for the cashbox key.
There was a place I'd rather be.

She hit the button on the floor,
while keeping eyes upon the door.
He stepped behind the counter then.
He counted us and stopped at ten.

He said he'd let the others go.
Why me? I asked but didn't know.
Police arrived and parked outside.
"I didn't call" she promptly lied.

He gathered us into one aisle.
I felt the horrid taste of bile.
He made the clerk go lock the door,
while we were lying on the floor.

The brightest lights were flooding in.
I asked forgiveness for my sin.
I'd traveled to the hair salon,
but, never told him where I'd gone.

I'd gone to get a manicure.
My motives were not all that pure.
I thought about my little lie.
I knew that I might have to die.

The cops tried entry in the back.
I sure could use a healthy snack.
Then pretty soon a megaphone,
said drop your gun and come alone.

They told him he should let us go,
but, that just made his anger grow.
The cops then called the counter phone.
It would be best if I atone.

I saw him stop and start to think.
I needed alcohol to drink.
He told the clerk to answer then,
and, waved the gun at us again.

I thought of Pete who did my nails,
and, how his arms would always flail.
One arm had swung and brushed my breast.
I got a thrill, then made a mess.

While I enjoyed my memory,
the thief by then could clearly see.
He raised his arms and started out.
He dropped the gun, the dirty lout.

The wary clerk retrieved the gun.
I wasn't having any fun.
They took him in without a fight.
By then their cruisers lit the night.

For sure it's been a scary tale.
It turned out towels were on sale.
My guilty mind began to bawl.
My husband needs to know it all.

This is fairly lighthearted and meant to be humorous, even though a robbery is going on

A woman muses throughout the robbery and confronts a sin that she did and thinks about that because she might die

We are inside her mind and hearing what she thinks
