75 word story
July at the Manor
by zanya
The familiar thud of the croquet mallet rent the air. Champagne glasses glinted. Butler Amish polished vigorously.
Harston Manor was Amish’s life since before Marquis Charles’s birth thirty-six years earlier.
A sense of ennui invaded Charles’s spirit.
Donning his straw boater, he ascended the staircase to his boudoir. Clutching his suitcase, he exited by the servants’ quarters and climbed into the waiting carriage.
Tourists now gaze at his croquet mallet in the Manor’s archive.
