A sudden, sharp pain erupted in Elizabeth’s breast. Her painting is the last to be presented. Would she be a coward, or does she have the courage to remove the drape for the final judging by Father Johnson, a Jesuit priest.

Elizabeth is a senior at Visitation High School. The school belongs to the Sisters of the Holy Blood. Her girlfriend, Ann, warned her not to enter her painting in the Art Contest. Judging criteria includes overall beauty, storytelling, use of color, and the work's ability to elicit emotion.

Elizabeth swallowed her fear and removed the drape. An audible gasp arose from the nuns and parents in the audience. The painting depicted a naked Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus suckling at her breast. The priest stood and walked to Elizabeth, blessed her and said, “There is no doubt your work is the best in the contest. Congratulations, young lady.”
