A different world

Blind Mankind

by Shirley Ann Bunyan

If all the world’s people were blind,
looks would be inconsequential.
Love would grow in words and deeds.
Unions providential.

If all the world’s people were blind,
racism would not exist.
Skin would be to touch and stroke,
lips to smile and kiss.

If all the world’s people were blind,
clothes would be worn to keep warm,
our houses not built for style but strength
to weather any storm.

If all the world’s people were blind,
resentment and envy would die.
Material goods worth only
their practical use to survive.

If all the world’s people were blind,
yet animals still could see,
they would lead us and guard us from harm.
No more victims of cruelty.

If all the world’s people were blind,
we would take each other’s hands,
united for the common good
across God’s oceans and lands.

Feelings writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem sharing an emotional feeling about something such as: life, death, war, injustice, marriage, loneliness, loss, hope, laughter, or a subject that might not be listed. Express an emotion such as fear, anxiety, love, hate, disgust, indifference, etc.

This poem, I realise, is an idealistic, almost child-like, scenario. A blind world would also bring its problems.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
