Olympic Gold

by Terry Reilly

I settle down behind the blocks,

my body rocks

just once and then

I hold my Zen.

Composure at the start is key.

I rise and whee!

I fly the track

keep nothing back.

One huge inhale, I will not fail.

Wind in my sail.

Head's in a spin,

I dip, and win!

The crowd applauds, my spirits soar.

Nine point five four!

World record time!

That's just sublime!

Well, I've known happiness before,

but this, much more!

First through the line,

the Gold is mine!

Happy Poems writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Think about happiness and write a happy poem. It can be any style, free verse or rhyme.

Inspired by the Paris Olympics and Noah Lyles 100 metre victory.
I was a keen 100 metre runner in my late teens and early twenties.
County standard, never quite made it to National level. But some of the races I won created the most amazing euphoria I have ever experienced.
Those of you old enough to remember the 1968 Mexico Olympics may recognise Tommie Smith the 100 metres Gold medal winner giving his courageous and controversial *black panther* salute.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
