true Midsummer Eve

Midsummer Moon

by gansach

Mystic, magical night sky,

black velvet draped above

sprinkled with silver sequins;

opalescent orb prominently displayed,

centerpiece of the setting.

Moonbeams spilling, cascading,

diving, splashing

onto sibilant leaves,

flowing through night-blooming gardens

fragrant with flora:

camellia, phlox, lupine,

larkspur, snapdragon, violet,

bleeding heart, buttercup, daisy,

baby's breath, honeysuckle, iris,

marigold, zinnia, wolfbane,

hollyhock, cat's paw, morning glory,

foxtail, forget-me-not, candytuft.

Midnight zephyrs mingle scents

wafting through her hair,

refreshing her inhalations,

caressing her skin.

This is her night~

true Midsummer Eve,

heavy with highsummer heat,

pregnant with possibility

and the ripening yield;

a night to feel earth~close,

one with nature,

part of the continuing circle,

elemental, spirit~light.

Here in garden,

sheltered in talking trees,

a~flicker in torchlight and firefly

reflections,

she hears faeries whisper

old~world secrets,

listens to chimes on the wind,

heeds wisdom~filled ancient voices

sharing seldom heard counsel.

With hushed dawn,

this magic moment is paralyzed,

impressed upon soul memory,

a breath held, then burst with birdsong

that blends into Midsummer Day.

Heart full, at peace,

grateful for miracles,

Mother Earth,

Midsummer moon.
