Never a good feeling
Lonely! Me??
I remember the day of purchase, a new to us home
warm and secure, I felt the allure, never wanting to roam
but the deadly COVID silence made me aware
that quiet is too quiet when your life you cannot share
restricted by the pestilence, unable to go beyond
Zoom meetings and phone calls from people I am fond
as you get older, it seems a part of life
when daily chores amount to silence and strife
health problems dictate whether you go or stay
if you visited family too often, would you be in the way?
I recall an elderly neighbour whose loneliness came to be
a source of worry for the younger me
now I tell myself there must be another way
to open some doors to friendship and keep loneliness at bay
At least, I hope so!
