The Rest of Me

by Jessica Wheeler

Lonely Poem Contest Winner

Was it not enough to leave
me lonely, wrapped in wounds?

You ripped your way right through my very core.

Did it not suffice to still my soul
and steal my trust?

You left with so much more than I could spare.

Could you not have shown a shred
of mercy, after all?

And leave alone, this hole you left in me.

Were you not content to leave me hollow,
did you have to go
and harden then, what little I had left?

Was it simply not enough for you to leave?

Before you turned the rest of me to stone.
