Free verse on loneliness

The Road We Call Loneliness

by Katiemae1977

My soul is quarantined;
disconnected fibers of my being
set adrift on a forgotten sea.

Shards of desolate days stretch one into the other;
frozen in their cloistered time.
They tease and taunt me.

My mind is withdrawn.
As I try to think I'm disjointed from those I see.
On my own amidst an ocean of those who live and breathe.

My heart, unattended beats solo against
the orchestrated sounds of humanity.

I wander, disassociated from reality
playing solitaire in this game called life.
Stumbling wildly down the road we call loneliness.
