Mourning her grandmother, a heartbroken Jesse climbed the cliffs, staring into the waves pounding against the boulders.
She held a locket, a gift, and her only connection to the mother she'd never known.
Waving her clenched fist, she cried, "Why have you forsaken me?"
A woman, frail and weathered, stood near the edge. She, too, stared at the crashing water below. Without glancing at Jesse, she spoke, "I came to end my life today."
Jesse gasped, "What stopped you?"
"An answered prayer," she whispered.
"He doesn't hear mine."
The woman smiled. "Yes, child, he does."
She wore a matching locket.
