his head in sorrow
the loss of his mate

her quiet ways
soothe his soul
she sings softly
to her champion
of the sea
the protector
she now protects
as warm water,
seahorses, minnows
swim around the
two water dwellers

sitting in silence
he is grateful for
her presence
as the sun sets
and she strokes
his smooth scales
