Gone but never forgotten
My Sister Carol
So many years have passed by
since my sister slipped away.
It was in sleep God took her,
up in Heaven, she would stay.
Many years we stayed apart,
for something that was petty.
One day she asked me to come;
by that time I was ready.
There was no animosity,
bitter feelings thrown away.
An afternoon of helping her
sort all her clothes that day.
Winter clothes were put away,
with summer clothes, replaced.
We talked and laughed all afternoon,
Such a happy state of grace.
When it came time to say goodbye,
we all hugged Carol tight.
In just two days we would return,
planning on next Monday night.
On Monday morning came a call,
that my sister slipped away.
It was in sleep God took her,
up in Heaven, she would stay.
The sadness never leaves you,
though it dulls as years go past.
Then, just one small reminder,
all the sadness comes back fast.
Now memories are all I have,
of her voice, the things she'd say.
Some pictures in an album,
and our love on that last day.

Sad Poems writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression.
