A Dark Day

Am I surprised at the attack
on Donald Trump? A heinous act!
Not really, it is no surprise,
unfairly, Donald Trump's despised.
 
He's compared to Hitler, he's been accused,
of many horrible things, abused,
by the media they instill
hatred of him, a bitter pill.
 
In every way, they've tried it all,
a campaign bent to make Trump fall.
The hatred spewed against this man, 
is something I don't understand. 
 
"Dictator", "Felon", "Racist", "Liar", 
someone believed, it fueled their ire.
He took a shot and lost it all,
an innocent victim would also fall.
 
There's no one that deserves to die,
for their beliefs, we can't deny
that evil rhetoric led to this.
It puts our leaders all at risk.
 
There're those who wish he didn't miss,
a shameful thought, I will say this,
violence we should not promote,
changes are made by how we vote.
 
We must come together and learn,
if not, I think we will burn.
Stop the fires of all this hate,
stop the madness, it's not too late!
