Seasons of The Mind

by allison lammert

It came and went like the seasons
Transitioning through their banausic rhythm.
It occured so gradually there was no recognition.
A week that mirrored a year.
Emerging out of the cold and dark of winter,
Spring brought hope and new life.
The warmth of Summer constant and unyielding.

Then the Fall...
Further away from the sun than the day before.
Back into the abyss
Fighting and pleading to remember the warmth.

A snow flake floats down from the heavens.
Lands on the tip of her nose.
Realization that there's beauty with no warmth,
The sun forgotten.
It's Winter.

I had been experiencing a really mundane ( Banausic) rhythm to life when this poem was written. It was reminiscent of winter growing up. The days too short, the weather cold. Something incredibly joyful brought me out of the depths of my mind if only for a moment to glimpse the light and feel the warmth of the world at that time. The event inspired me to write this poem.

I decided I'm finally ready to share.
