Boss Bill's Pen-cils

by Bill Schott

Bill began to pen a poem;

it was late; he was at home.

With all there was to write about,

he thought to whimper, but a doubt

crossed into his mind.

Boss burned down his boyhood town;

all evil ones were in the ground.

They emerged when he was young,

when just a poet, yet unsung,

before the signal shined.

There lived before the final war

his family, friends, and even more,

but a notion moved his mind,

gave him sight where once so blind;

he saw -- THEY ALL MUST PAY!

Boss Bill leveled cities --  states,

countries, continents met fates,

the world burned and people learned

THEY MUST COLLECT THE WAGES EARNED!!

TODAY!

But then -- another thought occurred;

a silver cat eating a magic bird,

a talking bear playing a tamborine,

a seeing eye seeing all that's seen ---

and then he put the pencil down.
