Trees for homes are cut down

One Home Left

by Liz O'Neill

All of my ancestors
have been cut down

Why did they save me
what is so special about me

There is a worn path wandering by me
where many stand to honor me

They saved me to save others.
I am the one home left for these birds

This reminds me of a tree I watched with many birds homing in it. It was cut down to make room for a parking lot. I hope the birds found another tree for another decent home until more parking lots are needed.
