Song lyrics

Stand By Your Gran

by Shirley Ann Bunyan

Your Gran can drive you crazy sometimes
Telling hardship stories all the time.
Her days were harder,
nothing in the larder.
She worked odd jobs to make a dime.

She leaves her false teeth in the kitchen.
How she lost them, she don’t understand.
She smells like flowers. Hums songs for hours.
Still cooks pot roasts with practised hands.

Stand by your Gran.
Just listen while she chatters.
She’s wise on family matters
when good advice is needed.

Stand by your Gran.
She loves without condition.
Goodwill her life’s ambition.
Stand by your Gran.

Stand by your Gran.
Cherish the time you’re spending.
Be mindful there’s an ending.
Stand by your Gran.

Take a well-known song and replace the original rhyming lyrics with your own. Rhyming is required, the original meter should be preserved, but no other restrictions apply.
However, to avoid copyright infringement, create a new, similar, title which unmistakably references the original.
For example: On The Street Where You Live might become On The Road Where You Dwell or Jailhouse Rock might become Prison Jive.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
