Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
I am not a gardener

Decisions Decisions

by Claire Tennant

'Please remove the plant'
he preferred it stay
centred on the table
right in harm's way
it would get the sun
but also the central heat
and now it was thirsty
contemplating defeat

How much water would I need
to keep the treasure alive
its bonny blooms upon the stem
sorely needed to thrive
coaxing it gently
I almost heard it moan
I visualised the final hours
of a bush fully grown

'Come on, don't give up' I said
as though talking to a tree
did not my favourite plant deserve
the same courtesy?
"I will tell Dad to move you
to a better spot."
where in the shade, you will not fade
believe it or not

I picked up another glass
intent on getting it frisky
imagine its response, though
to soda and a dash of whiskey
