A poem about a new purpose for an old tree

Old Tree

by Brenda Strauser

Old tree, Old tree
The leaves and branches of your tree were healthy and
growing

In the spring, you produced apple blossoms

I could smell the scent of apples ripening in the fall

Sweet memories of resting under your limbs would  soothe my soul

Old tree, Old tree
Now, there's no use for you

A spiral crack in your trunk has led to decay and rot

Bark is peeling and splitting

No apple blossoms grow from your branches anymore

Old tree, Old tree
I found a new purpose for you

Now, beautiful flowers grow from your roots

Heavenly scents of honeysuckle permeate the air

Old tree look at you now!

Storms and strong winds pulled the old apple tree out of the ground. The tree was cut down and they planted it upside down, with roots at the top. Then turned the apple tree into a beautiful planter.
