A wonderful memory of my Mother

Mother and Me

by NanaGaye

We moved to live with Gran and Granddad

My father was serving in World War two

It would be better for Mum and me

Even if it had an outside loo

Granddad had a night time job

Mum went to work not far away

Gran was home when I returned from school

She had lots of stories for little girl Gaye

With  lots of friends at my local school

I never regretted being an only child

My vivid imagination

Would drive my friends wild.

My mother took me on trips everywhere

A very independent lady at that time

She signed up for Conductress on trains

‘No  worries’ she said  ‘I’ll be fine’

She would collect me from Gran’s

And we’d travel up and down

Visiting places in our land

Country, cities and the odd town.
